If you are a Nigerian graduate who wants to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, you need to make sure that your name is on the matriculation list of your institution.

This list contains the names of all the students who have been officially admitted and registered in their respective courses. Only candidates whose names are on this list are recognised as bonafide students from the various accredited institutions.

By implication, if your name is not on this list, your application to NYSC scheme for the one year National service shall be declined.

What happens if a students name is not on the matriculation list for NYSC?

So, what happens if your name is not on the matriculation list for NYSC? Well, there are a few possible scenarios and solutions that you can explore.

  • The first scenario is that you have not verified your admission status on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) portal. This means that you have not accepted or printed your admission letter from JAMB, which is a requirement for being on the matriculation list. To solve this problem, you need to log in to the JAMB portal with your email and password, check your admission status, accept your admission offer, and print your admission letter. You also need to print your JAMB result slip and original JAMB certificate. After doing these steps, you can check the matriculation list again to see if your name has been added.
  • The second scenario is that you have verified your admission status on JAMB portal, but your name is still not on the matriculation list. This could be due to a delay or error in the uploading of your details by your institution to JAMB. To solve this problem, you need to contact your institution’s admission office or student affairs unit and request them to upload your details to JAMB. You may need to provide them with copies of your admission letter, JAMB result slip, and original JAMB certificate. You should also follow up with them until they confirm that they have done so. After that, you can check the matriculation list again to see if your name has been added.
  • The third scenario is that you have verified your admission status on JAMB portal and contacted your institution, but your name is still not on the matriculation list. This could be due to a mismatch or discrepancy in your personal information or course of study between JAMB and your institution. To solve this problem, you need to apply for a correction of data on JAMB portal. You can do this by logging in to the JAMB portal with your email and password, clicking on “Registration”, then “2021 UTME Data Correction”. You will be required to pay a fee of N2,500 for this service. You can then proceed to correct any errors or inconsistencies in your name, date of birth, gender, state of origin, local government area, or course of study. After making the corrections, you can check the matriculation list again to see if your name has been added.
