Can I Change My NYSC PPA to Another State?

If you are a corps member serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, you may be wondering if you can change your place of primary assignment (PPA) to another state. The answer is yes, but it is not easy.

First, you need to have a valid reason for requesting a change of PPA. Some of the acceptable reasons are:

• Health issues: You have a medical condition that requires you to relocate to another state where you can get better treatment or care.
• Marital status: You are married and your spouse is serving or working in another state.
• Security concerns: You are serving in a state that is experiencing insecurity or violence and you fear for your safety.
• Personal issues: You have a family or personal problem that requires you to be closer to your home state.

If you have any of these reasons, you need to get a letter from your current PPA stating that they are releasing you from your service. You also need to get a letter from the PPA you want to move to, stating that they are willing to accept you. These letters should be addressed to the NYSC state coordinator of your current state.

Next, you need to report to your current local government inspector (LGI) and submit the letters along with your NYSC identity card and clearance form.

The LGI will then forward your request to the NYSC state coordinator, who will approve or reject it. If approved, you will get a relocation letter from the NYSC state secretariat.

The relocation letter will indicate the new state and local government where you will serve. You need to take this letter and report to the NYSC state coordinator of the new state within 21 days.

The new state coordinator will assign you a new PPA and LGI. You will then open a file at the new local government and continue your service there.

However, changing your PPA to another state can be very stressful and time-consuming. Some of the challenges you may face are:

• Delay in processing: It may take weeks or months for your request to be approved or rejected by the NYSC authorities. Sometimes, they may lose your file or documents and you will have to start the process all over again.
• Cost of transportation: You will have to bear the cost of traveling from your current state to the new state and back. This can be expensive depending on the distance and mode of transportation.
• Adjustment issues: You will have to adapt to a new environment, culture, language, and people. You may also face difficulties in finding accommodation, feeding, and transportation in the new state.
• Loss of benefits: You may lose some of the benefits or allowances that you were enjoying in your current PPA, such as free accommodation, feeding, transportation, or extra income. You may also miss out on some of the opportunities or activities that were available in your current state.
