Are you a corp member with a passion for communication arts and a desire to contribute to the dissemination of information? If so, you might be interested in joining the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) during your NYSC camp experience.

What is OBS?

The Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) is a group of corp members who are responsible for broadcasting news, making announcements, and producing entertainment programs for the camp community.

OBS members play a vital role in keeping the camp informed and entertained, and they also have the opportunity to develop their skills in broadcasting, journalism, and public speaking.

Sections of OBS

The different sections of the OBS crew include:

• Program crew
• Technical crew
• Electrical crew
• News broadcasters
• Writers
• Presenters etc.

How to Join OBS in NYSC Camp

The OBS is a highly competitive group, so it’s important to start the application process early. Here are a few tips on how to increase your chances of getting selected:

• Arrive early at the camp. This will give you more time to make inquiries about the OBS and submit your application.
• Apply immediately. Don’t wait until the last minute to submit your application. The earlier you apply, the better your chances of getting selected.
• Write a strong application letter. Your application letter should be well-written and should highlight your skills and experience in broadcasting, journalism, or public speaking.
• Be alive and enthusiastic. Let the OBS selection committee see that you are passionate about broadcasting and that you are eager to contribute to the camp community.

Activities of OBS Members

OBS members are responsible for a variety of activities, including:

• Broadcasting news and announcements. OBS members use a variety of media, including radio, television, and social media, to broadcast news and announcements to the camp community.
• Making interviews. OBS members interview camp officials, fellow corp members, and other guests.
• Producing entertainment programs. OBS members produce a variety of entertainment programs, including music shows, comedy shows, and talent shows.

NYSC OBS Activities Outside the NYSC Camp

Most of the OBS crew who are found to be active are recommended to serve in the town or city areas where there are recruited into the Editorial or Publicity CDS group.

This CDS includes members from different states who work is to provide information needed to produce the monthly NYSC newsletter, radio or TV station program, the NYSC year magazine, and also involved in sensitizing schools on reading, writing and learning.

In close collaboration with the NYSC public relation unit they serve as the mouth piece of the other CDS and the corp members.
