How to Know Original NYSC Certificate

The NYSC certificate is an important document for Nigerian graduates as it signifies eligibility for employment within the country.

After completing the one-year national service, you will receive your NYSC discharge certificate. Those exempted from the service will be issued the NYSC certificate of exemption or exclusion if they meet the necessary requirements.

Unfortunately, there have been cases of individuals possessing fake NYSC certificates, which poses significant problems as it can lead to job loss and even legal consequences for forgery.

To ensure the authenticity of your NYSC certificate, I will guide you on how to verify its originality.

There are two methods to check if your NYSC certificate is original:

• Online verification
• Offline verification.

Keep in mind that only the NYSC discharge certificates, certificate of exemption, and exclusion letters can be verified.

To check the authenticity of any of these certificates, follow the instructions below:

Online Verification Method:

1. Visit the official NYSC certificate verification portal at https://verify.nysc.org.ng.
2. Click on “Proceed to Verification” to initiate the process.
3. Enter your correct NYSC email address and password.
4. If you have forgotten your password, click on the “Forget password” link to recover it.
5. If you are a new user, click on the “sign up” link to register on the NYSC portal.
6. After entering your email address and password, click on “login” to verify your certificate.

Note: A fee of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000) is required for online certificate verification.

Offline Verification Method

Follow these steps for offline certificate verification:

1. Write a letter requesting verification of your NYSC certificate number addressed to the Director-General, National Youth Service Corps, Directorate Headquarters, Plot 416, Tigris Crescent, Maitama, Abuja.
2. Mark the letter as “Attention: Director (Corps Certification).”
3. Attach a photocopy of the certificate you wish to verify.
4. If you have multiple certificates, number them sequentially and attach their photocopies to the letter.
5. Submit your application letter to the NYSC Director General’s Registry located on the 6th floor of the NYSC headquarters (Yakubu Gowon House).
6. Include your contact address, email address, and telephone number in the application letter.
