The NYSC Identification card is an important document that serves as proof of identity for corps members. It is issued to them after completing their registration at the NYSC orientation camp.

Once registered, every corps member receives their National Youth Service Corps identity card. It is necessary to keep this card with you at all times, whether you are inside or outside the camp.

It’s important to note that during your final NYSC clearance, you will need to present your NYSC identity card to receive your discharge certificate.

Unfortunately, there have been cases of corps members misplacing their NYSC ID cards, often due to theft or carelessness. If you find yourself in such a situation and have lost your NYSC ID card, there is a process to obtain a replacement.

According to the National Youth Service Corps, every corps member has the right to get a replacement for their lost NYSC ID card. However, please note that there will be a fee for the replacement.

In this post, I will explain how you can go about obtaining a replacement for your lost or stolen NYSC ID card.

How to Get NYSC ID Card

To get your NYSC ID card, you need to make sure that you report to the NYSC orientation camp on time and complete your registration process there. Once your registration is successfully completed, you will be issued your NYSC ID card.

There are two types of NYSC ID cards that are issued to corps members:

1. Temporary NYSC ID card: This is the initial laminated ID card that you will receive at the camp. It serves as your “state code tag” and is required to access various resources within the camp.
2. Permanent NYSC ID card: After a few days on the camp, you will be issued a plastic permanent ID card. This card will be used throughout your service year. It is important to keep this card safe as it will be exchanged for your discharge certificate on your Pass Out Parade day.

So, make sure to complete your registration at the NYSC orientation camp to receive both the temporary and permanent NYSC ID cards, which are essential for your participation in the National Youth Service Corps program.

How to Replace Lost NYSC ID Card (Temporary ID Card)

To replace your lost NYSC ID card, the procedures differ depending on whether you lost the temporary ID card (state code tag) or the permanent ID card.

If you lost your NYSC temporary ID card (state code tag), which is issued to corps members during their first week at the orientation camp, you will need to apply for a replacement. It is important to replace the lost state code tag because without it, you may face difficulties accessing food from the camp canteen and obtaining the permanent ID card.

To replace the state code tag, visit the camp registration centre and explain the circumstances of how your temporary ID card got misplaced. The NYSC official will ask for your state code and other personal information to verify your identity.

Once your details are confirmed, they will issue you a replacement temporary card that you can use until the permanent ID card is made available.

Make sure to follow the necessary steps and provide accurate information when applying for the replacement of your NYSC temporary ID card.

How to Replace Permanent NYSC Identity Card

To replace your NYSC permanent ID card, you will need to go through a more complex procedure. There are two methods available: offline replacement and online replacement.

Offline Replacement:

Follow these steps for the offline replacement method:

1. Obtain a police report for the loss of your NYSC ID card. Visit a police station and explain the situation to get the necessary report.
2. Use the police report to obtain a sworn affidavit from a magistrate court. This affidavit will serve as a legal document supporting your claim of the lost ID card.
3. Write an official application letter to the NYSC state coordinator. In the letter, explain your situation, the loss of your ID card, and your request for a replacement.
4. Attach the police report and sworn affidavit to the application letter. These documents will provide evidence of the loss and support your request for a replacement.
5. Take all the documents to your Local Government Inspector (LGI). The LGI is responsible for processing replacement requests.
6. You will be required to make a payment for the replacement procedure. The LGI will provide information about the specific amount and payment process.
7. Your LGI will process your application and inform you when your new ID card is ready for collection.

Online Replacement:

To replace your NYSC permanent ID card using the online method, follow these steps:

1. Visit the official NYSC portal at https://www.portal.nysc.org.ng.
2. Click on the login icon and enter your email address and password to access your NYSC dashboard.
3. On your dashboard, locate and click on “Replacement of ID card.”
4. A new page will load displaying your full name, Call-Up number, and state code.
5. Below that, you will find a dialog box where you can explain what happened and provide details of your request.
6. Enter your request in the dialog box and click on “Send request” to submit your application.
7. You will be required to make a payment for the replacement either through Remita or bank deposit. Follow the provided instructions to complete the payment process.
8. After making the payment, you will need to upload a police report and a sworn affidavit from a magistrate court. These documents serve as proof of the loss of your ID card.
9. Once you have uploaded the required documents, your new NYSC plastic ID card will be sent to your Local Government Inspector (LGI).
