Do I Need NIN to Register for NYSC 2024?
If you are planning to join the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2024, you might be wondering if you need a National Identification Number (NIN) to register for the program. The answer is yes, you do.
The NYSC and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have agreed to collaborate on the mobilization of prospective corps members (PCMs) starting from 2024. This means that all PCMs will have to register for mobilization with their NINs, which will serve as a unique identifier for them throughout the service year.
The aim of this collaboration is to improve the online registration process for the NYSC and to prevent issues such as duplication, impersonation, and fraud. The NIN will also help the NYSC to verify the identity and eligibility of PCMs, as well as to facilitate their deployment and posting.
To get your NIN, you will have to enroll with the NIMC at any of its designated centers across the country. You will need to provide your biometric data, such as fingerprints and facial image, and some personal information, such as name, date of birth, and address. You will then be issued a temporary slip with your NIN, which you can use to register for the NYSC.
You can also check your NIN status online by visiting the NIMC website or by dialing *346# on your mobile phone. If you have lost or misplaced your NIN slip, you can request for a reprint at any NIMC center or online.
The NYSC has advised all PCMs to obtain their NINs before the commencement of the 2024 mobilization exercise. The NYSC registration portal will only accept NINs as a means of identification and authentication. PCMs who fail to provide their NINs will not be able to register or participate in the program.
The NYSC is a one-year mandatory service program for Nigerian graduates who are below 30 years of age. It was established in 1973 to promote national unity and integration among the diverse ethnic groups in the country. The NYSC also provides opportunities for skill acquisition, community development, and social service.
The NIMC is a federal government agency that is responsible for creating and managing the national identity database of Nigerian citizens and residents. It was established in 2007 to harmonize and integrate existing identity systems in the country. The NIMC also issues the National Identity Card, which is a multi-purpose smart card that can be used for various transactions and services.
